Ok so heres the deal... I'm 37, slightly fat and hella out of shape. I could barely skate when I was 14 16 18 20 22 etc, so I rode flatland freestyle and street. I'm remodeling my home, my wife is pregnant, and I'm having a mid-life crisis. So instead of buying a Harley or a Corvette like all of the meathead tools in my town do, I want to get back into shape and learn to skate. What I'd like to know is, am I going to look like a jackass if I show up at the indoor park here, riding this equipment. I'm looking at the FLIP Burnquist P2. I've choose that board because I am 5'9 and weigh about 260lbs. It seems to have nice aggressive contours, and this new "spring loaded pop" technology to boot. (Jesus even Burnquist was like "Uhh ya I guess if thats what ya want to call it")

(Insert link to FLIP's website here to see video of Bob Burnquist talk about the new PS technology) Need 15 posts to post URL. Lame.

Anyway, My goal is to do some grinding on the kicks, some rails, and some freestyle. I just can't picture my fat ass on a little board.

The trucks I thought I'd put on there are the KRUX 3.5 down-low. They say the board limit is out to only 7.75 for that size truck and this board is 8.5 so thats basically 5/8th's of an each board overhang each side, which might be a little better for flip tricks, or no??

Do I need a riser?? I think no... or is it a shock absorber thing? Then maybe a real thin one?

Wheels... Hell if I know, but I will be skating on wood, tennis courts and smooth concrete. I honestly have no idea what to get.

I figure the Burnquist board lends itself more to vert, but based on my size, and flab and the size/style truck it is kind of a hybrid?

Berings I can figure out, and the hardware ehhh... whatever. So any tips/advice I would greatly appreciate. Now I just need to find a slow time of day at the skatepark, because I have seen videos, and these locals rip it up.
My fat old ass will be a speed bump.

Thanks!
MLC! :icon_peac

I'm not really sure on what tricks to learn next so I'll go through the ones I have now, and I also need some hardflip advice. The tricks I have now:

Ollie (somewhat switch, and nollie, down 3 stair)
(Pop) Shuvit FS and BS
(Pop) BS 360 Shuvit, landed my first one yesterday
Kickflip
Varial Kickflip
Heelflip
FS 180s (sometimes)
Boneless (180)

So I'm kind of lost on what trick to learn next. I was thinking 360 Flip, or Hardflip, I just don't really know. I've tried Hardflips and couldn't really get them. But I honestly think (and this might sound dumb) I might get them fairly quick. I've tried doing the half back-flip the board does, without the kickflip spin, and could land on the trucks, only it didn't go between my legs. So I was thinking maybe I could try getting them without the kickflip spin between my legs, and just land on the trucks, and than once I'm comfy with that get the spin in.

And for 360 flips, I have tried them and I could get the board to rotate 270, and get a full kickflip spin, or 360 with a half kickflip spin. But I think I want to get my 360 shuvits really good first, because I just don't like how much effort I have to put into them. The reason why I think I could get Hardflips easier is because I have a friend who landed his first really quick, so when ever I try them, any commitment problems I have just disappear. So what do you think?

It is cool it got filmed, but it did not look good with a filmer running around on the area. I am sure the DVD will be great, but as a spectator I got annoyed (I watched videos filmed by spectators).

Looked like a great fun contest. Too bad I could not go. :-(
